How to clone a virtual machine in VMware Fusion for Mac Personal Edition.

This week I’ve been trying to watch an online conference (with my left eye) while working (with the right one).

I was using an old MacBook Air with the new macOS Big Sur to watch the conference. As usual, it is configured to lock the screen after a short time of inactivity.

In this post we started writing about macOS security. This is the continuation of that post.

A macOS security primer. Because security matters.

After writing this post the logical next step is writing something about launchd.

launchd is a tool created by Apple some years ago (launched in 2005 with OS X 10.4 Tiger). It is open source and licensed under the Apache License.

launchd has two main goals:

1. Boot the system
2. Maintain services

If you think that it resembles systemd no, you are not crazy: In Rethinking PID 1 Lennart Poettering (a Red Hat engineer author of systemd) mentions launchd as a source of inspiration.
